more swap goodies, a trip to the Big Smoke and a surprise phone call...ooooohhhh!!!!

(commes des garcons s/s 2008....I did NOT buy this outfit!!!)

I went to the big smoke (otherwise known as London) this week. On the way, whilst waiting for my breakfast (a canny way of getting to sit in the relative comfort of first class whilst paying for a normal ticket is to go to the restaurant car - you can sit there for the whole journey - hoorah!) I got a phone call from a faux Geordie. Just as I masquerade as a Yorkshire lass when I am really a pure bred East Anglian (well, I don't know about pure, but East Anglian anyway), this woman lives in the North East but is a right little poshie. She sounds like the Queen (Ok, not quite...but still, I am enjoying painting a picture of her sat on her swivel chair throne, crown on her head, sewing the 3 billion mini quilts she has to make by the end of her life). YES, it's LUCY LOCKET!!! How lovely is that? (and in case you're wondering...she did already have my number, she hadn't somehow stalked me like a lunatic). It was a shame I was waiting for my fry up and on a train that kept going into tunnels, because I could have (and I think I will) chat for hours. In fact, we are going to meet up, in York, when we have both saved up some pennies for tea and cake.

I had a lovely time in Lonodn, but I spent far too much money on clothes, and not a penny on fabric. I even stayed away from the fabric section in Liberty (because the Devil would have tempted me, waving some tana lawn in my face, or some over priced hugely expensive but lovely Scandi print that I would never cut in to...too precious, too expensive, too lovely, I would say). I went to my fave shop ( Libertys ) and had tea and cake (they've done something to the tea room, it's horrible and all modern, I am bereft), went to my second fave shop ( Dover Street Market ) and had carrot cake (gorgeous) and bought some trousers that look like PJ bottoms (honestly, I will have to get a photo), and a jacket, and a couple of T-Shirts. Dover Street Market is the Commes Des Garcons shop in London, and I love Japanese fashion, so it's like a little piece of heaven for me. And the staff are friendly, not all fashionista weirdy and stuck up like in certain department stores in the Big Smoke. And I seem to fit in nicely there. I have been called a witch on many occasions, told I look like Gok Wan, someone from the Proclaimers, asked where my broomstick is, pointed at by students (that's the worst one - STUDENTS?!, wearing NEON???? The shame - I had my fave skirt of the time on too, I thought I looked fab). And someone once asked me (at a wedding, I was wearing Vivienne Westwood - the clothes, not the woman draped across my back) if I had made my outfit. Poor husband nearly choked on his champers. He'd paid a blimming fortune for it, and it apparently looked like I was a fashion student gone crazy with some scissors. One day I shall reveal my PJ trousers...they're gingham too (bet that makes you all go '???')

On to swap news.....

This little parcel of goodies arrived in the week whilst I was away from Hazel .

Hamish promptly took tea with Maya (who was another recent addition thanks to the joys of swapping)

Maya was sent by Stacey , and she is beautiful. So delicate and lady like (not like Hamish - he's a right little monster, keeps hiding spiders in my bed and everything)

The new friends took tea on Grace's doll quilt from my friend Beth over in Texas. It's so perfect, and gorgeous.

She cut out about a million little tiny triangles and sewed them all together. It's amazing, and really needs to be seen in real life to be believed.

Aren't I a lucky girl? Yep, I know. I am :)

Oh Help! I'm going to be really scared of meeting you now, just when I'd got used to the idea of you sounding relatively normal on the phone! If you are fashionable and wear nice clothes you're never going to want to talk to me - I'm a scruffy dress over jeans with long cardigan kind of girl and wear the same thing for digging the allotment and going out in the evening! Nothing like the Queen at all!!!

Glad to hear you had a good trip to London and weren't completely terrified by your en-route chat with a pseudo-Geordie.

Your swappage gifts are fantastic - the colours in that doll-quilt are beautiful!

Great pressie swaps ! Your fashion discourse is quite hysterical - esp. draping Vivianne over your back.

ooh i have swapper envy. your trip sounds like it was a lot of fun. i am more a lucy locket kind of dresser too... big boobs and high fashion?? um i do not want to look like a page 3 girl... okay break time over, time for me to get back to my play quilt that looks remarkably like your lion pillows. i swear on ct's life that i did not copy. (this is the second one and hubby can testify to that as well.) may be we are great minds or what??

I do hope one remembered to say "Ma-rm" whilst talking with the Queen. (hee, hee)
I can't believe you stayed away from fabric shops, what control.
Your swaps are lovely, I'm having a bit of quilt envy now.

Loved all the fashion stuff and the fab Comme des Garcon picture (oh... that skirt) Don't think I dare show my plastic bag skirt now... but might have to visit their shop!

Err... Locket by describing yourself thus I fear you may have come across even more Queen-like.

Any tips for time in La Londres? I am off there next weekend!

Fashion at New Heights - Tips for Short Legged Woman
It's time for shorts and for many women that means taking a swift and tender look in the reflect. The best part of us isn’t completely happy with the way we look and can spend hours picking out areas that we long to improve. Unfortunately, genetics play a huge roll is body type and amazing you just can't argue with what nature has to say. For women with short and wide legs, buying clothing can be a real task. Don't lose you're determination. Looking great is merely a matter of knowing what works for you. Here are 5 rules you should follow to make your legs look vast in everything form tights and leggings to skirts and shorts. Japanese Fashion
1 - Buy the Right Size Shirt
2 - Don't be tempted By Bagging Pants
3 - Avoid Light Color Jeans
4 - No Horizontal Stripes
5 - Avoid Full Length Skirts

Oooh, your trousers sound surprisingly appealing! I'm also shocked and appalled that you're not a real Yorkshire lass- you've ruined the perfect image I had of you with your whippet and flat cap shouting "ee by gum there's trouble at t'mill". Shame.
Promise me you and Locket will go to Betty's when you meet in York...and post photos of the cakes. Ta :D

Long boring train journeys are definately improved by a chat to posh Mrs Locket! You needn't worry about meeting her - she's too funny (ha ha) to be royalty!!!

Your shopping trip sounds very glam. I take it you didn't shop at Primarni or Matalano dahling?

Glad to hear you kept your strength up with plenty of cake!

You've scored the most amazing things in your swaps.
I am extremely jealous of your goodies and the fact that you will be meeting a new friend in York.
Although I'm pure bred Australian, from Melbourne, I masqueraded as a Yorkshire lass for a few years and have very fond memories of York. Wet and windy as you say, but just lovely.
