doing my bit for foreign relations

Do you live in the UK? Yes? Oh, sorry, this part of the post isn't for you, scroll down to see less exciting things.

You don't live in the UK? Ok....marvellous. Read on.

I have heard many a Foreigner (that's you) lament at the lack of Cath Kidston in their part of the world. Now, whilst I am unable to pull strings and open shops near you all I can make a couple of you feel a little brighter. Whilst waiting for my favourite Indian restaurant to open last week (I thought opening time was 5pm, it was actually 5.30pm, I stood outside pacing for a bit, but the hungry children began drooling at the smells going on inside) we ended up popping to Tesco's (big supermarket) for a bit of time killing milk, baked bean and bread shopping (the essentials). Imagine my joy and delight (as well as total shock and surprise - I never normally venture into Tescos at all, our local one isn't very nice, really it should be knocked down and rebuilt, or just knocked down full stop) when I happened upon these little beauties at the checkout. So I bought some (4 to be precise, 1 for me, 1 for my friend and the spare ones - for YOU!). I had also bought some new cleaning cloths on my little shopping trip (my favourite ones, they are pretty, it almost makes me want to use them), so I am throwing those into the deal as well.

Leave me a comment on this post some time this week (I'll leave it open until next monday) and I'll draw 2 names out of the hat/random number picker/Ginger's pointy fingers. I'll also pop some other good old English treats in too (surprise ones). Tell your friends, or not, if you want to increase your chances of winning (well, that's what I'd do. It's a dog eat dog world after all).

The only rule I have is you have to live out of the UK, coz if you do live here you can pop down to Tescos yourself and snap one up (for £3.50, the profits are going to Marie Curie cancer care, and they are made from recycled plastic bottles. Clever that, innit?)

Onto other stuff...

I tidied her room, so you can now see Miss Gs quilt in situ... (crappy pic, but the sun was too shiny, so I closed the curtains, and now it looks a bit, well, washed out, but you get the idea...). That's the only bit of her room I tidied, so you can't see the rest...

I had a Big (28" square) Pirate Cushion practise run (so I could decide which blocks I liked best). Ginger is getting this one for his birthday. My kids always end up with the practise runs. The poor boy, he's still waiting on that hexagon quilt...hopefully it'll be done by Christmas. Hand quilting is HARD work when you have weak wrists and very little patience...
(2 more Pirate cushions to make for Chrimbo prezzies, I decided I liked the log cabin and the pocket best, so 2 each of those on each cushion)...

I was so pleased to hear so many of you have had trouble with felting too. It makes me realise I might not be a complete idiot after all. I haven't done my homework for the class on Wednesday. I really can't be bothered. But I will stick it out, for this term at least. I can't bear the thought of a whole year though. To tell you truth, I just didn't enjoy it at all (kept looking at the clock, wishing the time would fly past). I do have another quilting workshop on Saturday, and can't wait. This time it's foundation piecing, which I have never tried (too afraid), I have a load of Liberty prints and I know we're making a cushion cover with a big star on the front. After reading about the Liberty Jack quilt on Sarah's blog and then seeing a very tiny and not very good picture of it in this month's popular patchwork magazine I have become obsessed with trying something in the Liberty print tana lawns I keep squirreling away for 'special' things. If I keep them much longer they'll disintegrate, time to make some snips, methinks.

oooh - those are cute, and you are very kind to offer to give them away. Unfortunately I do live in UK so am not eligible. Although I think I should be as I can never get stuff like this at my local tescos... but I will rise above my chagrin to wish the non-uk residents the best of luck!

(Sole Monday???)

Pick me Pick me Ginger, for the Cath Kidson bags. Have to show the locals up with their Harrods bag. Cath definately is much classier (well in my world. :D).

Lovely quilt, lovely cushions and I couldn't be a**ed trying my hand at felting. Good luck with it though.

A giveaway??? Hot dog!!! Add me in to the drawing. I will also add it to my blog (as painful as it is to share the goodies) - only in hopes that I win (hee hee)!! I am doing my field work for my Master's degree in social work at a cancer agency. Anything that helps find a cure for cancer is worth advertising about. Thanks for buying such cute things to share with us and fighting against cancer!!

My mum's an ace quilter, and foundation is her very favourite method of piecing. She's making a HUGE quilt with ... Liberty Lawns at the moment! I'll be really interested to see what you make.

Life's too short to spend a morning every week doing something you're not enjoying, isn't it? :-( Hopefully it will get more interesting for you.

I'm going to have to go to Tesco's tomorrow...or emigrate so I can enter your giveaway!
I LOVE your piratey cushion - fab colours and patchwork! Miss G's bedroom and new quilt look very beautiful.
I prettied Minx's room up two weeks ago and we've managed to keep it nice ever since. That's some kind of record in this house!!

xx

Ohh... Me! Me! Me! (Waving hand frantically!) Cath stuff...*sigh*

Your pirate cushion is brilliant!!

I will move to another country if you add me into the draw. Is that a bit extreme? Oh well nevermind

We have the worlds biggest Tesco in the big town near where I live - there's not a hope in hell of grabbing myself a Cath bag in there, although it does have a 'bollywood' section, so I could get a couple of movies if I so wished!

What a great giveaway! Another Aussie here. Love your pirate cushions!

magikquilter said...

I love them and live in Australia so I qualify. Can't ask my MIL to pop down to Tescos to get them as she is in hospital after fracturing her hip in a fall....otherwise I would.

A lot of the people in my flickr groups are always saying they do no have Laura Ashley so I recently did a giveaway with her stuff but the people who won said they would prefer Australian wool for knitting as I have heaps!! Just have to do a separate one for my South American readers!

I love the quilt and cushions and everything but I am a huge fan!!

Wow how clever are those bags being made with recycled plastic bottles, very clever indeed. I live in Australia so count me in the draw. Off to ponder how they make round bottles flat for the bags rofl.................

Oh, count me in, I would love to own one, and feel that since I had to spend the afternoon at the dentist in Camden, I might just probably deserve it.

(That would be Camden, NSW, not Camden somewhere in the UK.)

I know exactly what you mean about your tana lawns, I am the same way with them, and with 30's prints too. I get so bloody precious with them I forget to use them. :$

Kathy said...

What an enjoyable blog you have here. I just found you and I'll be back to read more. Cute creations you have going on. Love the quilts.
I'd be a happy winner of the bags. Thanks, Kathy

Oh, I have been coveting Cath stuff for ages! I live in the US, and haven't seen a thing. These are lovely, and you are so generous. I wonder if we have anything here in the US that others covet so.... maybe I should do a similar giveaway? What a weonderful idea!

Sue said...

I'm in the USA and with our depressing economic news, winning a lovely bag would be wonderful for the spirit.

I spotted these in my local Tesco the other day but I was at the check out with two kids so I couldn't make the dash across the aisle to get one! I particularly like the stripey ones - I was thinking it might make rather a nice knitting bag. I shall have to remember to pick one up next time I'm in there.

Lovely quilt btw.
