WIPS and finishes

I had a 2 night marathon binding sewing session, whilst battling with the cats as to who was in control of the quilt, the thread and the needle, but I got Ginger's rocket quilt finished. This morning, at the crack of dawn, I washed and dried it, and it's now on his bed. Waiting for him to come home from nursery. And also because his friends, Elizabeth and Phoebe, are coming round later, with their mum (who happens to be my friend) and I want to show off. Heck, at least I'm honest. Cue manic bedroom tidying.

I think the wall above his bed looks bare though. I can't decide what to put there. Maybe 3 pictures. If anyone knows of any I should get, please let me know. Dinosaurs, rockets, animals, transport, spiderman (NO - NO, not spiderman, that was the ginger one talking). Maybe alphabet prints. Hmmm.....

And so we move on to WIP number 2. A lap quilt that has sat around for too long waiting to be finished up. I finally got the back pieced, and now I've basted it. Hubs is away tomorrow, so I can try and ban myself from the computer and get it quilted. Maybe if I do the binding today I'll be more inclined to finish it.
I love these fabrics, by Sandy Klop. This quilt is possibly going to be for a friend, when she has her baby. Possibly. But I love it so much I don't know if I can bear to part with it. That's just selfish, isn't it? I must try hard to give it away. I must.

Yesterday I had a lovely cuppa and sausage sandwich with Brioni. We spent a good 3 hours chinwagging and supping tea. Lovely. Hopefully she will want to do it again sooooooon? Oh, and Brioni - after our chat about Heather Bailey - I bought a load. Thanks for that ;)

I have three pine framed pictures of animals (cartoon stylee, bright colours, perky and chirpy) that hung on d/Boy's wall for many years (only took them down as his 7th birthday approached) - do you want 'em?

I can send you a photie if you are interested.

Ginger's quilt and room look fab! Three appliqued rocket pictures, using some of the quilt fabrics in plain pine frames? No, I wasn't volunteering!

Yay for the finish - I hope she was suitably impressed with both the quilt and the tidy bedroom....

Gosh you are on a roll with the reward scheme/must finish everything in sight plan. That lap quilt top is the tops!!
Must add Sandy Klop to my list of fabrics to find a way to buy as soon as.

I think some kind of quilted wall hanging would look good above the bed. Do you have any of the fabric from the quilt left that you could use?

I LOVE Heather Bailey fabric, can't wait to see what you bought!

As for piccies on the wall, I reckon you need some funky planets to go with the outer space theme, especially with that rocket hanging in the middle of the room.

Cats and quilts, they really do think they own everything don't they??? :-)

I have a linoleum print of a cute martian in red, blue, and a bit of yellow. I can send you a pic if you are interested. I'll be happy to send it to you.

love the quilts - especially the lap quilt with the American Jane fabric - isn't that fabric just so wonderful - it makes its way into most things I make lately. For the blank wall, try "tsktsk" - she is a Brisbane based artist who has some fab robot prints and a wonderful alphabet. Her blog is http://www.tsktsk.typepad.com/ - you should see her jungle painting - it is divine. And only divine artwork would complement such a divine rocket quilt :-)

My two both have fabric appliqué pictures on their wall - I put the appliqués in cheapy Ikea frames.

That quilt is stunning - you must be so proud and pleased with yourself. I bet he loves it.

something i've learned with decorating rooms. not that i'm a huge decorator mind you. however as i was saying...you want to find pieces that will grow with the child. i'm sure you'd find lovely prints on etsy. something that would look nice in his room but you love as well for when he outgrows the little boy stuff.

The room is too, too cute! So many colors! All those personalized pillows! The pillow at the headboard has the numbers on it... is that the Ikea sheets?

Rocket quilt looks great on the bed and I love the other quilt that is waiting to be basted - gorgeous. for lovely little prints check out www.littleart.co.nz

I have some in both my kids rooms - very sweet.

It looks fab and how very satisfying to get another project finished! For a cheap deco option why not stretch some fabric on a canvas or two or three. I made one for a friend's boy with 3 strips of fabric sewn together and stretched horizontally. I was admiring it the other day and realised I had made it! Or, of course, you could frame fabric which I always love!

his rocket quilt looks awesome. i need some more boys to make quilts for! we have some adorable robot fabric at the shop screaming at me, and now some sweet car fabric.
what about framing some fabric bits? his room looks great (especially those curtains)
