I know plenty of people (yes, mum - you) who would say no. And I did struggle quite a lot this time. That bit at the top of your arm, underneath - it's quite fleshy, and squishy (on me, at least), and sensitive. According to my rule of 'if it's tickly it'll hurt' that bit should have hurt the most out of the places I've got tattoos. It did. I'm not ashamed to admit, I had to turn away so I could have a little cry. A very quiet one. That was a first.
But it's 2 days later, and it's starting to feel a bit better. The bruising is going down (I bruise really easily). It'll start getting itchy soon. My crafty arm is almost complete. I think I just need a few little buttons dotted here and there, maybe a couple of stars to fill in small gaps. Then we can move on to the left arm.
My friend, Sash, who is much cleverer with the camera is coming round tomorrow (she took this pic) so I'll see if she can get one of my whole arm.
School starts again next week. Today I have the last minute rush to get everything I've previously put off. We need shoes for Miss G, most importantly. Ginger's school shoes were bought right at the end of last term when he had a last minute foot growth spurt. Typically. I know leaving it so late will mean she gets no choice, which is bound to cause drama and much stomping of feet in ugly school shoes. I do it every year. I think 'I'll get everything early this time' and then forget. So here we are, less than a week to go. To be quite honest, she needs a whole new uniform, but I have an irrational fear of the school shop ever since I went once (yes, I have only been once - I write notes to the teacher asking for things, or send the husband) and a very scary shop lady screeched 'no children in the school shop' (which is difficult as it's a school shop, for school children to buy uniform). I think she may have left, she'd been there since the husband was at school, it's possible she's no longer on this Earth, but I'm too afraid to risk it.

I think the pain IS worth it ... as long as you've planned well. I prefer not to get tattoos anywhere that will likely change its shape over time, and have a standing 3-Year Rule: if you still want the same design after 3 years, go for it; you probably won't regret it.
I do the same thing with my kids' school shoes: what if their feet grow over the summer?!? They spend most of sumemr shoeless or in flip-flops anyhow so I make 'em wait until just before school starts. Not guaranteed that they won't grow right away, but it's a shot ...
When I got my tattoo I chose an inconspicuous spot, just above my waist and under my last rib. I wish I would have heard your tickle rule then! The artist started working and said, "You picked a really bad spot for this -- it's really going to hurt when I hit your rib!"
Why didn't he tell me that *before* he started!
I'm giggling insanely at your school shop experience! Be brave! Go back!! Even if it's just so you can tell us more funny stories!

P.S. Ouch!
You have to suffer to be beautiful, facials, waxing, eyebrow tweezing, etc etc etc .....good job my beauty is au-naturale!!!.....going to pinch the pic & send to Whitney ok....
just scrolled down & seen the new niece congratulations to all ...she will do fine ...Kayla was 8 weeks early & 5 & half lbs !!(and look at her now!!)
Whitney (who was 2)thought we had got her a baby from Africa!!
Fab tat! Very impressed
April xx
Love your tat...I am kind of old for one so you will be the vicarious me when it comes to that.
I am a retired teacher and I was often appalled at how some people who work with kids act like they hate them!!! The best was the librarian who didn't like the kids to check out books because it made the shelves messy!!
Cheers, Bridget
Aaaah! That is what you went with. Noice Missus, very noice.
Ouch. Even the thought makes me wince.
The school shoes question - trouble is, if you get them earlier in the hols, their feet grow and the new shoes don't fit anymore! My youngest is 8 and is now in the size below mine :-O

Owwww! You are SO brave. I never let anyone near me with anything pointy... especially needles. I have this old fashioned allergy to pain.
Go in stroppy to start with and tell her - it's a skool shop for Kids, get used to it. Tell her The Griffin says so... I'm not scared of her (I'm a good runner and hider!) Can she have some gorgeous shoes from somewhere else?
it looks amazing!

I have been thinking new tattoo thoughts for the longest time... Yours is inspirational.
It is worth the pain.. if you ask me lol but I am in the process of getting my sleeve done, I'll ask my self this question again once I've coloured the cage in, in my inner upper arm (wing) and my arm pit... your tattoo looks awesome!
wow! That looks great! Worth the pain I think!
I got one on my back which wasn't too bad, but the one on top of my foot hurt like hell!!
With only a small tatt myself, I can IMAGINE the pain BUT for a tatt like that...yes, yes and YESSSSSSSSS
I found that the pain had become a bit like childbirth pain - not really that bad when you try to think about it ...
Already planning my next one!
By the way, fabric porn-photos on this fab ladies' blog : http://suzyroo.blogspot.com/
And I get to see it in the flesh tomorrow! Happy I finally get to meet you, though I'm sure I won't get a word in edgewise with all the talking of fabric and crafty things...
Let's face it, you are just way too cool for school - well the uniform shop at least!! Love the arm - maybe add a little pin cushion in the gap!
Wow you are a brave lady, I couldn't do it as I'm a wuss! I dread shoe shopping at the end of the holidays, but this year Em's feet are ladies size 4 1/2 and she didn't want "kids shoes" so we managed to find a pair of sturdy pumps in the ladies section for £30 that were comfortable, fitted and the right colour. Good luck with your search. Jane
Most excellent ink! I love this one....although I think I might love the scissors more... I'm torn.
I find it strange that whilst it is painful to be tattooed, it's also totally addictive! I've been itching for a new one for an age - just trying to find a time with spare pennies and something I want to get (and I have to beat DH off because he wants his back piece first!).

Hello, you have the most gorgeous site here and I had to leave this comment for you ! Your posts are lovely and you have interesting pictures. It's all perfect so thank you for sharing them all and best wishes....
It's worth it, but are you finding that as you get older they hurt more and more? I remember thinking I was so tough when I was younger, but now I'm 30 and I feel like a total wuss when I go in. It's beautiful though! :)
Great tattoo. I'd like another, but there never seems to be either time or money, and I'm more scared of the pain now than I was when I was younger.
Can't wait to see a pic of the whole arm :-)
