a bag of sweets

...or candy, or (as pointed out by Aneela) fruit pastilles. Yum. For those of you that do know what fruit pastilles are - have you ever been able to not chew one, and just suck it right down to a sliver? No, me neither.

And for those of you that don't know what a fruit pastille is - these are them. I'm a bit more than a bit partial to them. But I do tend to feel a bit sick after a few. That might just be the sheer speed that I guzzle them down, though.

What am I wittering on about? Well, this.....

The string quilt I started a wee while ago is now a top.

And the husband hates it.

Great.

It is a little on the bright side, so I'm not sure where it's going to live, but it would make a fab picnic blanket, wouldn't it?

All the fabrics are either Katie Jump Rope or Flea Market Fancy, by Denyse Schmidt, and it measures 60 x 75 inches. Not very big. Not really bed sized. It was going to be much bigger, but the husband's dislike for it put me off. So now on to basting and quilting. Maybe he'll like it more when it's quilted.

No, I can't see him changing his mind either.

Although, I will give him some credit, I showed him these and he got very excited. He's not a completely lost cause, after all.

It could possibly live at my house ... failing that maybe some very lucky child having a sleepover at your house might love to snuggle under it .
Greetings to the husband who knows his Liberty !!!

I am so jealous, my fella only ever says 'Hmm, nice' to anything I make. It would be good to have a man who knows what he likes/dislikes.

I don't think I've ever had fruit pastilles but there's a shop near my house that imports lots of candy from the UK, so I might just stop by there and see if they have any!

I love the quilt! Although I am a little partial to Denyse Schmidt as you know. I think your husband is just a bit crazy for not liking this!

My husband is the same way about some stuff. Sometimes men just don't get it. :)

Now does the husband enjoy his fruit pastilles??? maybe that is what is marring his enjoyment of this quilt? maybe he want's a snickers quilt or maybe a tic tac one????? I know I once got a cola cube stuck in my throat and so could probably not enjoy a cola-ish lookin' quilt to this day (but I will try should you choose to make one).
I always, always give in to the chew, no can do the slow suck to sliver....not ever, I'm afraid.

the green fruit pastilles are the best - but I never seem to get that many - they're all orange or yellow :o(
Loving the V&A fabrics, but I wish you hadn't exposed me to them. I'm way to tempted to buy...

Cute quilt! What's not to like about it? (A husband with an opinion on the other hand....). Well done! Happy sewing!

Love Denyse Schmidt - playing with Hope Valley right now (well typing at the moment).

The quilt is fab! There is enough variety of color to keep your eyes entertained and looking all over the quilt. I showed it to my wee twins and they loved it!

If you need me to take your hubby down a peg or two . . . I'll fly over the pond and do it! Well, I'm snowed in over here in Ohio. Might have to wait for spring.

Katy, love this pretty quilttop with all the pretty fabrics! It is quite fresh (maybe a brown border would bind it all together and calm it a bit) (just an idea - not that it needs anything)

Lovely size for cuddling under in your favorite chair. I am sure it will be a favorite once it's quilted.

I do listen to my husbands opinion about my quilts, too. Not sure if that's a good thing?

I love a fruit pastille and can eat many. I really like the quilt and agree that maybe it can be toned down a bit with a border. And I also agree that having a husband that offers an opinion is indeed a blessing!
Now don't fall off your chair but I actually posted on my blog the other night so I'm back ......

it's a lovely quilt. You could always find a friend who likes it and give a gift!

It's another beauty! Do you have a twin? How do you pump these pretties out so quickly. Must be a little something special slipped into those pastilles :)

It's a beautiful quilt. Sorry your husband doesn't like it - if he bans it from the house it can come live on the back of my sofa! haha

OK.... I may be out on my own here. I do like your quilt, but I think if you could work some white or blank space into it, it may give the eye a little rest. I love string quilts and lots of pattern, as you know. Just putting an alternative out there...

Though my main thing is WHY did you go and put that link there. You know I must go and buy fabric if you do that.

Is it? Could it be? The SLIGHTLY SECRET QUILT???? C'mon, throw a bone here!

Sorry he doesn't like it, but hey, at least he's got an opinion and isn't afraid to share it! It will indeed make a wonderful picnic quilt, but you already made a gorgeous one last spring, so he may just have to get some sunglasses and deal (if you decide to keep it on the couch!).

Oh! Slap him, slap him hard. It is just beautiful!!!!

I love how this turned out! The bright colors really make this quilt pop...you could always send it to me so your husband doesn't have to look at it :)
