So, if I make a swoon quilt, will you make a swoon quilt? A kind of quilt along, but not necessarily a strict 'we shall be doing X,Y,Z on these dates, woe betide you if you fall behind'.
(if you click on any of the pics below it takes you tho the flickr photo. I recommend you click, then you can see lots of other pics of those quilt. They're all so lovely)

(twinfibers)
I can no longer resist the charms of swoon.

(FussyCut)
It has beaten me.

(MrsMcPorkchop)
You know you want to too.

(BlueRidgeGirl)
Come on.

(JaceyCraft)
Go get yourself the pattern from here (it's a downloadable - yay - instant gratification!) and let's start to have a little think about what fabrics we're going to use. I think Habitat and a moda cross weave in natural. The fabrics Angela used for her bow tie quilt that I love so much.

(RunAmok)
The swoon kit using Camille's ruby fabrics is on sale right now at Fat Quartershop. Oooh - is that an omen?
Want to know what you need?
Fabric requirements -
18 FQs
4 1/4 yards background fabric
3/4 yard binding
5 yards backing fabric
The quilt finishes up at a pretty useful on any bed 80" square. I am told that each block takes around 2 hours to make, so is a block a week an achievable number? I think so. If you play I bet I can get some nice prizes for giveaways and contests along the way. Ooooh. Shiny prizes.
I set up a flickr group for those of you that want to join in. Please do. I don't want to be alone. (We need a button, I'll work on that...)

I'll be the first to swoon, I have the pattern too just begging to be made... but decisions about what to use - so many options - but probably heirloom?
Ooh. Tempted - it is rather lovely. Particularly smitten with the all-pink version by Blue Ridge Girl.
May have to sit on hands and be smitten from afar, but adding the flickr group to faves so I don't miss anything.
Happy making!
Yes indeed! Now to choose fabrics!
Oh yay! I've been trying to decide what to make mine with for months! I'm just about decided on Meadowsweet, with a fresh white background. I've been hoarding it for years. I'd have enough fabric to make about 10 swoons I think!
Now, I really, really want to make this quilt. It would be perfect on my bed. But I'm a quilty newbie so I know it will take me ages. I haven't even thought out the fabrics yet (and I don't have much of a stash). So yes, I'm in, I'm the one who'll swim my final lap once all the quick & cool kids are out of the pool, dried off and sitting laughing. ;)
I'm in!!
no Ginevra, I think that would have been me, except I'm only just getting back into the whole sewing thing, let alone quilting, so I think I'm going to be sitting on the side admiring your prowess and just dipping my toes in the baby pool of smaller projects!
I've just made my 6th block but I'm not happy with the direction. So I think a couple if blocks need to go onto the back and I'll mix up the colours and prints a lot more, so this will be great to reinspire me!!
PS I actually find it more efficient and easier to make more than 1 block at a time.
I'm in! I've got the pattern, and the FQs (Heirloom by Joel Dewberry - Citrine) just need to order the background fabric.
I'm all excited now! I was planning to make this quilt next anyway. Yay for a QAL!
Yay! A Swoon-along is just what I need. I bought the pattern and kit just before Christmas and promised myself I would not start it until other things were finished...now how can I leave you Swooning all alone? No, most certainly not, count me in!
You got me! I have the pattern laying around since a few weeks and this is the perfect way to start it!
Damn you! I am in serious danger of overcommitting to swaps, QALs and commissions at the moment... but its just sooooo tempting! I think I'm probably in...
Oh I really want to ... but free time is sparse for the next few months ... I'll follow along on flickr and here and will probably cave and join in about a week later!
I think I`m in - I have the pattern but haven`t done anything with it yet!
Oh count me in. I've been wanting to start a Swoon since I saw it!
Me! I have a Swoon pattern waiting to be used. I'm going to dip into my Hideaway stash.
What's with all of us? I TOO have the pattern sitting here waiting for fabric to be chosen!!!
I guess we were waitig for this quilt along!
I'm going to choose fabric today.
Have the pattern...have the fabric...and it has sat for months! Count me in!
Oh you temptress! I bought the pattern last year and have been eager to play with it. I'd love to join you, don't know if I can squeeze out the time.......I'll love watching the quilts come together, even if I can't make mine right now.
I have been accumulating grays and purples for this quilt. Guess it's time to start!
Ooo very tempted i have the pattern and everything!
Count me in! Swoon was on my list of quilts I want to make this year. I think I am going to use fabric from the Ruby collection!!
i;m in, just was planning on starting mine this weekend!
Now that I've seen all these beauties I'm tempted to do 9 blocks. Why oh why didn't I buy more solids the other day??? Back to the store I go...Or I can just use what I have...
YES!!! Oh my gosh, yes yes yes!!! I bought my pattern a couple months ago and have been stalking it every since. I've got my fabrics (Going Coastal) and I just started cutting yesterday! Timing couldn't be more perfect. SO SO Excited to have some company while I work on this quilt! (I'm AKA @spoolhardygirl on Twitter)
YAY!
Lol, happy swooning! I think I can resist for now... Looking forward to seeing what everyone else does though :o)
Oh, no -- I need another project like I need a hole in my head. Yikes! I'm already thinking about fabrics/colors/etc. Resistance seems futile....
One a month is doing for me right now. I'm in!
oh I have been thru my own Swoon-stage a couple of months ago, but will definitely watch & be amazed. Haven't gotten so much pleasure out of a pattern in a long time! You are in for alot of fun, to be sure!
I have a swoon quilt started (3 blocks finished). This is just the incentive I need to bring it out and get it finished. I'm joining the flickr group. Thanks for the push!
I think you hit a hot spot--we all love the pattern but haven't gotten around to actually doing it. My trepidation stems from fabric choices, but I'm going to raid the stash and see what flies out. I'm confident that more experienced quilters will post photos on flickr to inspire me!
Oh -- I'm a little late -- I actually completed my Swoon top a month ago and can't get motivated to quilt it. May I join in anyway???? This might be the push I need to get down to business. :)
I'm in! I ordered my fabric (Terrain) last week. Just need to get some background.
Mine has been sitting with one block done. I need help to. Im here with ya girl!
SWOON!!! Yes, yes, yes! I have the pattern, I have the fabric and it's been on my wishlist to start. Now I get to do it with friends. Thanks Katy! : )
mine is almost done.... so i will join to provide support to all you swooners by sharing my tips and tricks that i found while making mine. first tip... press your seams open! always press open!
I've had the pattern for 6 months... fabric for 3... and even have some white blocks cut. but no time :(
You can count me in, Katy. I've got the pattern, and just can't decide what fabrics to use! Every time I think I have it figured out, I change my mind! Starting to think perhaps I'll need to make several...
Ah, I bought the pattern a couple months ago, deciding I would use single blocks for mini quilts & pillows. I would love an entire quilt! But...it sure requires a lot of fabric that I don't have. It's also twice as big as anything else I've ever made, there is probably no way I could quilt it myself at home?!
I have joined the group & we will see what happens I guess! Either way, I can't wait to see all the swoon swarming in!
Yes, count me in! Got the FQ Swoon kit when it was 50% off.. a while back... It's time to start sewing it. Thanks for hosting!
Okay, I'm in! I'm supposed to be working on UFO's this year, but I have the pattern and I think I know what fabrics I want to use, so Let's Do This!
Thanks for hosting!
yes, yes, yes! I bought the pattern and a FQB of Bliss from Camille about a month ago (and have some other Bliss I've been stashing (ie:hoarding) - and I JUST finished a quilt top I've been working on (so that means I can start another one even though I have at least a dozen WIP's, right?!)
I have this one on the list for this year, preferably in time for my almost 2 year old to go into her big girl bed in March... I have the pattern and am going to us up my Sherbet Pips for it... maybe I'll get cutting next weekend at my quilting day.
LOVE this pattern...MUST resist...must...must...
Oh no!!! I have the pattern and I'm sure I have the fabric...lol. But can I really fit it in, it wasn't on my 2012 to do list but you are tempting me!
okay, this is seriously an omen. i bought the pattern last october and even bought a FQ bundle to make a christmas version. and then, well, christmas happened. i'm definitely in. peer pressure is good....sometimes. :-)
I am definitely Swooning!!! I also have the pattern here as I haven't been able to decide which fabrics to use:)
I'm in. I bought the pattern a while ago and this is just the motivation to get going on it. Looking forward to it. - Jen
Sounds great! When will this lovely quilt along begin? =)
i'm in ! I wanted to do this one soon anyway! I just got these patterns back in my shop! YAY!
I have the pattern and I've already chosen the FQ's, but the swoon just gets pushed aside for one reason or another. This should be good.
You're a tempting McTempter. Prizes even! But I have to refrain. So many WIPs already for 2012! I so totally want to make this one day, but it'll have to go back burner. I can't wait to see them all come together (I figure I'll have lots of inspiration to choose from when my day comes!). Have fun!
I bought the pattern with making a mini in mind. If I can find the right fabrics I will join in!
Oh my! You know I'm in! You've just pushed me to commit to it right away. I'll go and sign up now. Lexi :)
you are full of good ideas!, although i'm getting ready to make the giant star quilt you made in velveteen, with the "in color order" tutorial And i'm using my habitat FQ's for that.
I'm making mine from Flurry. I'm sure Ruby would be fantastic. You can always use more quilts, right?
I made Swoon in Bliss, I just love it!!!!
I think I will make another this time with a
dark background.
Oh, what a wicked temptress you are. I need to make another quilt top like I need another piece of cake.
I'm in. Now to decide which fabrics to use...
If I sign up I might acually get it done, not just think about it...lol
I'm going to use Ruby
Defo on my do list, think I want to make it in FMF though, so will have to wait till march I'm afraid :-)
That looks waaaaaay too hard for a beginner like me, but I aim to work up to it!
Found enough fabric for the FQ's last night. Pattern bought and delivered today, so I'm in!!! Yay :-)
Yes! Count me in! I've had the pattern for ages, just the motivation I needed to start. Gotta go find some fabric...
Count me in! I was just blogging about the swoon quilt being top on my list for 2012. I already have my fabric for my top and my pattern and plan to start next month with a few practice swoon baby quilts for some pregnant friends of mine. I figure it will be good practice for when I start my quilt. Woo Hoo go team Swoon!
You got me. I'm in! I have had the pattern for forever and I blogged right at the end of 2011 that it was on my to-do list for this year so this is the kick up the butt that I needed :o) I have nbo idea on fabric yet - I might be a late starter as I've got to get the kids back to school for the new year first before I can lash out on fabric ... I am torn bewteen going the same as the pattern or something different.
I'm doing a personal swoon quilt along this year, too. 2 hours for a block is not enough (for me), I used 6 1/2 hours for cutting for one block and sewing it all together (I have done one block by now). I will be making a block a month and at the end of the year I'll have my swoon quilt finished. A block a week is definetely too much for me as I only have some hours in the evening to sew. I wish you joy with your quilt along!
Oh, yes, I want to join! I made two swoon pillows for my daughter and I have another block and a half cut out. Maybe I'll use them for a couple of minis or pillow for my little man.
oh -I've already made a Halloween Swoon and I have blocks started for another so this is definitely a SAL for me - I'll be posting pictures soon. Swoon is such a wonderful quilt pattern!
I must be slower than others. The block I worked on today took me closer to 6 hours from cutting to finishing 1 block!
Oh this is fantastic!!! I am SO in! I have this pattern coming, hopefully next week, so I just have to decide which fabrics I want to use! Yay!!! This was already on my 2012 to-sew list, so now I can do it along with others too!!
Have pattern, will Swoon-along. Actually, I bought the KIT (I never buy kits)! This is going to be my first new quilt project of 2012. Awesome idea to have a quilt-along.
PEER pressure is a horrible thing....(I say as a cave...) I am in....
I'm in! I'm going to make mine from Violet Crafts Peacock Lane collection. I have been saving that bundle for this pattern especially. I also have my second child due in a month so I may fall behind but this is great motivation to get started!
Im going to give it a try, I love the idea of a huge block that will get done quickly. Now just have to figure out which fabrics to use!
I want to make this quilt sometime but will have to wait awhile to pay off Christmas to get the pattern. Love this quilt!
I think I'm in. I've been wanting to make this and have some hometown fabrics set aside just for it! I'm VERY excited. Thanks for taking the lead. I'm a bit of a beginner so I especially appreciate this.
I'm in! I have a few fat quarters already, I just need to figure out my background color. This is just the kick in the pants I need. I've been hesitant to have more than one project going on at the same time but Swoon is so hard to resist. :o)
Oh girl, I am SO in!!! I have been wanting to join a QAL, and almost joined a different one; but decided not to because I had so many other quilts that I knew I wanted to make more (thinking specifically of this swoon quilt that I already have the pattern for and a yummy FQ pack of ruby all lined up and waiting)... then I clicked over to Camille's blog to see info of this *swoon-along* and almost squealed! I am so excited!! I may get started tomorrow! (I just haven't decided which white I want to use for my background fabric yet...hmmmmm).
I'm in! First quilt along - even started a blog to record my progress. Hope I cross the finishing line - I'm known for my UFOs!
Oh I just love this idea!! I have the pattern and most of my fabrics so please count me in. :0)
Have a great week. :0)
I've had this sitting on my cutting table for almost a month now. This is just what I needed to get started. I'm in! Thanks for the motivation!
I'm in! So excited for this! :D
ok, I cave. I'm gonna do it!
Im in. I'm just waiting for my fabric to arrive!
OK I tried to resist, but it seems that I cannot. I was struggling with what fabric I want to use for this and using that as an excuse not to swoon-a-long, but I have decided to cut into my precious Liberty stash to make this. I think it will make a lovely finished product, so I can't wait -- thanks!
Thanks for including my Swoon block, Katy!! I'm definitely in, because I want to finish my quilt ASAP. I've got six blocks done, so I'm getting there. Great idea for a QAL!
Yes, I am swooning now. I've loved these and you have just convinced me to make one. It's the "flexible" timeline that brought me on board. Now I can't wait.
Great idea! I have my kit prepare since october so... it is perfect!!!!
I'm making this as we speak, I am also making just one block for my mom as a sort of table runner for the center of her table. I'm thinking it will be a pretty fast on once everything is cut out.
OH you! All right, go on then. I'm caving. I've been intrigued by Swoon ever since it's unveiling at Spring Market, but I've just been admiring from afar. Can I really squeeze in a block a week? (*nervously biting finger nails*) I'm going to give it a go. Thank you for providing the support group.
Yay! I already have the pattern and the fabrics and my big crafting goal for this year is to make a Swoon quilt! So, I'm IN! :-)
Ok, I've looked at the flickr group and the photo's are amazing, I will have a go when I've finished this quilt. Katy, where do you buy your quilt wadding from, and what weight? The first quilt I made (I'm only on my second) I think I used the hobbs polydown but it seems really thin and insubstantial. It's a bit of a sewing black hole in east yorkshire and I ended up buying the wadding from the internet rather then going somewhere and having a look. Any product or shop recommendations would be useful!
I've been admiring these Swoon quilts for a long time. I just bought the pattern. I hope I can keep up!
I'm in!
I'm so in! Thanks! I wrote my little story on the Flickr page.
Looks like I will be swooning very soon too!
Yes,yes, yes! Count me in! I just joined the Flickr group and I'm so excited!
Oooh me too! I want to make this quilt as a wedding gift for my cousin. Now if I can just figure out how to join a flickr group....
Ok I cannot believe I found this quilt-a-long! I just broke down and bought the pattern this weekend! This is a sign! I guess I am in! Better to get the motivation from others! This will be my first quilt-a-long!!!
Thanks for hosting!
This is crazy how many people are signing up - I love it! Did you think this many people would join you? I can't wait to see all of them finished!!!
I have just seen this pattern today (yep call me slow!) and was thinking of ordering it, then I visited your blog...it's an omen - I have to make it!
Lynne of Lily's Quilts is a very persuasive lady....she assures me I can just make a cushion since I'm short on time....so here goes!
Wow, thanks for including a picture of my French Swoon blocks in your post :o) I'll join in on the Swoon Along! I have not made any more since the original four because I was working on finishing Christmas gifts...off to join the flickr group...fun fun fun!!
I started a swoon in September after thyroid cancer surgery. I was able to do 2 blocks a day - mind you I was recuperating from essentially neck surgery :). then I got the sashing done, and finally got the border fabric ordered and received and on. Backed it with minky and chenille, it is for my king sized bed! I just started quilting it on my home sewing machine, I just might be able to catch up when you are all thru constructing it :) Have fun with it ladies, I LOVED this pattern and I'm a newbie! I have fabrics picked for another one, so maybe I will join, lol.
I just got a fat quarter bundle of Ruby for Christmas, and I decided I'm going to make a Swoon quilt...just bought the pattern last week! It was meant to be...so I'm joining in! Thanks!
I'm in although will be using reproduction fabrics...I was looking for a pattern and you are all spurring me on with your energy , so I guess this must be the pattern, here goes...
Sucessful Swooning!
Best Wishes
Kay in Scotland
I want to swoon too!!! Pattern and fabric has been sitting there paitently waiting it's turn...Will be a bit late starting, but count me in.. now to figure out this fliker stuff...
Great idea! Love the pattern and can't wait for my fat quarter stack to arrive in the mail next week! Everyone's blocks look fantastic so far!!
Just stumbled across this. I got the swoon quilt kit off of fatquartershop.com and have been slowly working on it. 2 blocks done.
I shall swoon along with you the rest of the way. =)
