little monsterz

Yesterday I got a lovely package of fabric in the mail from Lola Pink Fabrics. I've been waiting for Monsterz to be released for what feels like an eternity. Was it Spring Market 2011 I first saw a sneaky peek? I think it was. Almost a whole year to wait - that's like a lifetime.

Monsterz is part of Cloud 9's price sensitive collections - meaning it's almost the same price as regular quilting cottons but 100% organic. The fabric does feel a little different to the premium cottons that Cloud 9 produce, but not in a bad way - it just feels like regular cotton instead of an egyptian cotton feel. I wasted no time in turning 11 FQs into a little quilt top. This took me an evening. I used the Fit For A Princess pattern I wrote for Sew Mama Sew last year, but adapted it for fewer FQs. Rule of thumb with that pattern - 1 FQ make a large block, so I used a layout of 9 large blocks and half blocks at the top or bottom of each row, using a total of 10.5 FQs. When it stops snowing (yes seriously - in April) and I've got this finished, I'll take some better photos and explain that a little better.

The back of the quilt is going to be this panel, with a border of white so the quilt is reversible. I'm planning to add it to the list of classes I teach - it's so fast to put together and easy to adapt the size according to how many FQs you have.

In other news - I spoke with Moda and the pezzy extra wides idea has been proposed, and wasn't laughed out the room. You know, I think it could happen - but let's not get ahead of ourselves, it's in no way a definite yet. I just wanted to keep you updated, ok?
