bloomsbury stripes

bloomsbury stripes

I made this really simple little baby sized quilt using the new Liberty Lifestyle cottons. The lovely people at Liberty asked me if I'd make something for the Liberty craft blog, a simple project that a complete beginner could make without it hurting their head too much.
It was a challenge to work in cm rather than inches and to use scissors instead of a rotary cutter (I figured if I was going to make something for someone that was unlikely to have the quilting equipment I should probably make it that way myself).

As soon as it's up on the Liberty blog I'll let you know so you can go see. Right now it's hanging quite happily on the wardrobe door, where I rather like it (although it's probably not the most sensible place for a quilt to live)

It's beautiful Katy and I love that you became a 'method' quilter to make it. The fabrics remind me of clothes I wore in the seventies as a child. Just gorgeous.

I can't say I've ever been that keen on Liberty, but these look lovely. Can I ask why you did it in cms?

beautiful and very beginner friendly when I made my first ever quilt I hand pieced and used good old scissors as I was just desperate to start and didn't have cash for all the equipment! glad I have it all now though! xx

I always used to use scissors for cutting fabric. Didn't know rotary cutters and mats existed. Then when I did get one I was too scared of slicing my fingers so left it in the packet for about 10 years lol

Yesss!!!! I cut everything with scissors! Way to think like a beginner! And I'm in a cm country too, but I haven't adapted yet. Nice job!

Love your ideas, and yes I still like to use scissors! The Liberty cottons are perfect for the quilt you have made. Great place to hang your quilt too!

Heh, love that you went 'back to basics' although I'm not sure I could part with my rotary cutter now!

I've been sneaking peaks at Liberty for the past 24 hours. I feel like an addict snorting fabric. Love the simplicity.
