playing with dolls

playing with dolls

I've been lucky enough to receive some of Suzy Ultman's next 2 lines for Robert Kaufman in the mail. There's Suzy's Dollhouse which is out (I think) in December and Handle With Care which is shipping in October (that's the kites and letters and bias stripes).
They are fantastic lines, full of fun prints and some amazing co-ordinates plus they look really, really good together. There's also a large scale doll print (not pictured because I need to iron it!) which would make fantastic PJs or laundry bags or pillowcases. I'm planning on using it to make a pillowcase for my niece's Christmas gifts - easy wrapping and 2 gifts in one, right? I'm really impressed with the colours in these lines - there's a really nice balance between bright and more muted shades. The lavender with grey makes me all fuzzy and warm inside, I just love those kites with smiling face so, so much. And let's not forget the bias stripes (which I am using for binding, yeppity yep)

I ordered a couple of new dies from Sizzix for my big shot and I'm going to whizz a cute little lap quilt together super fast using half square triangles and squares in big star blocks to take to Sewing Summit for the auction they hold over the weekend. I might use one of the large scale doll prints for the back as well, that'd be pretty cute.

If you've never been to the Sizzix website you really should. If you're thinking of getting a big shot (I totally love mine so I really recommend it as an addition to your Christmas or birthday list!) or if you have one already and are a bit stuck for ideas on what to use it for, then the projects pages have all kinds of great free projects and patterns for you. Angela, who heads up the quilting blog is a prolific sewer and sizzixer (made up word?) and is always showing new projects she has made using different dies. It's worth a read!

I'd love a Sizzix but for now 'tis a distant dream. I am loving that kite fabric - it looks gorgeous.

I'm thinking I'm either going to have a heavy Christmas stocking, or a heavy case on the way back from SS ;o)

Love your prints! I have a big shot and am always looking for quilting type dies but have a hard time finding them here in the states. Do you know of a sizzix site that carries the Westminster dies? Thanks!

I was thinking of getting a Big Shot, mostly because what puts me off most projects is cutting small squares of fabric! What dies would you say are the most useful?

I love the two fabrics at the top.

@ Kelly - it really depends on what you want to use the big shot for and what you sew most of all. I use mine mostly for cutting scraps so for me the 2" finished square is perfect and I use that more than anything else. The 4" finished square and the 4" HST dies are both really useful too - HSTs are so versatile, aren't they?
